Replacement seating for Haematology Outpatients Waiting Area

The Haematology service at Kings College Hospital wanted to improve seating in the waiting area to provide patients with a higher level of comfort and in turn improve their experience, as some of them are in the waiting area for extended periods of time.

The approach

Ocura worked with the team to identify a patient chair that would provide the patients with both comfort and support. The chair needed to be easy to clean to support infection control as many of the patients have low immunity.

The outcome

The service selected Ocura’s Arvada chair, with a mixture of medium back versions for areas where the patients aren’t seated for so long, and the high back version for the majority of the waiting area for patients who are seated for extended periods of time. As well as being comfortable, the Arvada has strong armrests which project forward to support patients getting in and out of the chairs. The Arvada also features a removable seat cushion for ease of cleaning, and a robust metal frame making it ideal for high-traffic areas.

Patients normally have blood tests which means hanging around for at least a couple of hours to get results. Patients have reported the chairs are much more comfortable for waiting and provide a better overall experience.
