The Brief

Freeman Hospital approached Ocura looking for new recliners for their chemotherapy day unit. The previous chairs at the unit were not fit for purpose, they were too low and did not recline easily, making it difficult for staff to assist patients who weren’t independent or who suddenly became unwell whilst in the chair. Ashleigh Hughes, Senior Sister told us shrinking floor space is an issue in the day unit, therefore the chairs needed to not only be comfortable for patients and easy for nurses to move and assist patients in line with moving and handling guidelines, the new recliners needed to be space efficient.

The Approach

During the process of finding the perfect recliner, other suppliers and recliners were considered but didn’t meet the exact needs of the unit. Our Toronto was the perfect fit due to the built in table option, allowing the unit to reduce additional furniture for space and ease of cleaning. Additionally the built in USB ports were a vital feature for patients who spend a lot of time on their devices whilst undergoing treatment. Lastly, fast access to the Trendelenburg position meant staff could quickly assist patients experiencing vasovagual episodes.

The Outcome
