Furnishing the Future of Healthcare: Ocura’s Partnership with Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre

When the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust set out to furnish the new Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), they needed more than just high-quality healthcare furniture — they needed a partner who could deliver a fully inclusive solution, on time, and aligned with their vision for a welcoming and efficient clinical environment.

Ocura was chosen to help bring that vision to life.

Customer Goals

The Trust had clearly defined objectives for the CDC’s interior environment, focused on accessibility, aesthetics, and operational efficiency:

  • Inclusive seating to ensure comfort and equality for all patients, regardless of age or mobility.
  • Coordinated colour schemes that would harmonise with wall artwork, supporting a calm and therapeutic environment.
  • A one-stop-shop solution to streamline procurement and reduce the complexity of managing multiple furniture suppliers.
  • Timely delivery to keep pace with the build schedule and ensure a seamless go-live date.

Ocura’s Consultative Approach

Our work with the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust spanned over a year, showcasing our commitment to long-term partnerships and patient-first design. Here’s how we approached the project:

Stage 1: Early Engagement & Needs Analysis

From the outset, we worked closely with the Trust to understand their goals, using architectural plans and detailed product take-offs to scope out initial needs. This culminated in a tailored proposal presented to key clinical stakeholders.

Stage 2: Collaboration & Product Trials

At this stage, we truly embedded ourselves into the project team. We conducted:

  • Interactive workshops
  • Stakeholder feedback sessions (including patients and staff)
  • In-situ product trials and demonstrations

This collaborative approach-built confidence across the board and ensured the final furniture specification genuinely met the needs of all end users.

Stage 3: Detailing & Preparation

With selections finalised, we focused on refining every detail — from spatial layouts and delivery logistics to installation protocols — to ensure a smooth transition to the final phase.

Stage 4: Delivery in Sync with the Build Timeline

Our dedicated project team ensured that all furniture arrived on time, unwrapped, installed, and ready for use, allowing the CDC team to concentrate on patient care, not furniture logistics.

The Outcome: Functionality Meets Comfort

The Newmarket CDC is now a modern, welcoming diagnostic centre that provides:

  • Faster local access to essential diagnostics, including MRI, CT, X‑ray, Ultrasound, Lung Function, and Cardiology.
  • High patient throughput – in the first 8 weeks alone, the CDC conducted over 3,500 tests and saw 2,800 patients.
  • Tailored furniture solutions that enhance both patient experience and clinical efficiency.

Our furniture not only supported the functional needs of the clinical environment but also complemented the Trust’s aesthetic goals — all while meeting their ambitious project timeline.

Why Ocura?

At Ocura, we understand that healthcare furniture is more than just seating — it’s part of the healing process. Our success with the Newmarket CDC shows the power of a human-centred and collaborative approach.

From inclusive seating solutions to turnkey project delivery, we’re proud to have played a role in creating a space where patients feel welcome, staff feel supported, and care is delivered efficiently.
