Transforming Hospital Spaces Through Charity: How Ocura and NHS Trust Charities Improve Patient Experiences

Transforming healthcare environments is the core of what we do here at Ocura Healthcare Furniture. Creating better outcomes for patients, staff and visitors gives us such pride, but we know that funding these transformations can sometimes come down to the generosity of the Trusts’ supporting Charities. 

Over the years we’ve worked with numerous charities to help kit out much needed areas of a hospital. From Neonatal Units to Transplant Wards, we’ve been proud to support a wide variety of projects. We wanted to highlight a few of the fantastic charities we’ve had the pleasure of supporting, starting with ALTA, based at Addenbrookes Hospital.

In our recent case study, we explored how funding from ALTA helped transform the G5 Transplant Ward at Addenbrookes Hospital. The ward’s previous upright wooden chairs weren’t up to scratch, often leading to patients not willing to leave their beds. As highlighted by Gill Kitchener from ALTA, patients that are not willing to leave their bed can often slow down their recovery. By implementing new recliners, patients were more willing to get out of bed and into the chairs, speeding up their recovery post-transplant. 

Next up, we’re heading to the fantastic charity SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents) based in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. The team at SSNAP have been fundraising relentlessly to raise monies for some already much-loved Mauro recliner chairs. 

We’re pleased to say that the NICU ward now has its own Mauro chair in every bay. The charity understood the importance of kangaroo care and how the right chairs can provide comfort for this along with breastfeeding.

Spreading the word of these amazing charities is the least we can do, so when King’s College Hospital Charity asked if we could personalise the kickboard of the Sofia Sleeper Chair, we were more than happy to help. 

We worked with their team to add on a branded message of support to the end panel of the Sofia; adding awareness of the charity along with it acting as a reminder of how the chairs were funded.
