The Brief

Following a successful bid for the accelerator funding, the Trust built an Accelerator Unit situated in the Candover clinic. The Accelerator Unit will help reduce current waiting lists for outpatient minor operations and procedures.

The Accelerator Unit provides a localised, optimally filtered, ultra-clean surgical environment to carry out microsurgical procedures and minor surgeries.

The Approach

During the selection process, the Trust looked at a range of models and the Tucson Mobile Recline Chair was selected as the chair of choice. Being compact, mobile, easy to move, easy to clean, easy to recline and adjust, and most importantly super comfortable for patients’ receiving treatments and recovering, Tucson was a clear winner for the Accelerator unit.

The Outcome

The Unit was opened at the end of September 2021 and is proving to be very successful at reducing waiting lists.

The Accelerator Unit has extended the surgical capacity of the Trust in a simple manner and at a relatively low cost. By performing the microsurgical procedures in the Accelerator Unit, the general operating rooms can be deployed more effectively for other procedures. Furthermore, as a super clean environment, it reduces prep time.

The Tucson chairs are perfect for the environment providing patients a comfortable supportive reclining chair that is very easy to use. The Accelerator unit’s main focus was efficiency when searching for an ergonomic post-operative recovery chair.
