Archie Foundation funded chairs for Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital

The Brief

Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital faced a pressing issue: the lack of adequate seating for parents and carers in the Medical Ward. The existing chairs were old and worn out, offering little comfort or support during long hospital stays. With each room already constrained by fold-down beds, there was limited space for additional seating that could accommodate the needs of both children and their families. The hospital’s environment needed a transformation to provide a more comfortable and welcoming space for young patients and their caregivers. The objective was not only to replace the outdated furniture but also to create a vibrant and supportive atmosphere to improve the well-being of both children and their families. 

The Approach

Ocura Healthcare Furniture took on the task of revitalizing the hospital’s seating arrangements. We meticulously measured each room to understand the spatial constraints and the best way to integrate new furniture without overcrowding the space. After careful consideration, we proposed a combination of our Mauro Recliners and Equala Chairs, depending on the space available, which were selected for their comfort and durability.

The Outcome

To ensure our solution met the hospital’s needs, we initiated a trial phase. We introduced the chairs alongside compact over-bed tables, allowing us to test their functionality in the confined spaces. Feedback from this trial was overwhelmingly positive; the chairs provided the much-needed comfort and flexibility, and their colorful, inviting appearance was well-received by both children and adults. 

However, despite the success of the trial, funding was still an issue. This is where The Archie Foundation Charity stepped in. Recognising the importance of the project, Archie provided the necessary funding, effectively opening the doors for the hospital to proceed with the installation of the new furniture. 

With Archie’s support, Ocura Healthcare Furniture was able to deliver and install the Mauro Recliners and Equala Chairs. The transformation was immediate and impactful, creating a more comfortable, colourful, and supportive environment for young patients and their families during their stay at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
