Milton Keynes University Hospital
Ocura supported the scheme by providing loans of several recliner chairs for the Trust to trial. The Ocura team worked closely with clinical teams and project teams to ensure the chairs provided to the new centre were comfortable for the patients, supported the staff in giving care, and fitted in with the architect’s design.
The Brief
The new site at Milton Keynes University Hospital features outpatients, procedure and specialist treatment rooms, a 24-bed inpatient ward, a chemotherapy suite and 11 clinic rooms. There are also quiet rooms, family visiting rooms, holistic support and group therapy wellbeing rooms and the Irene Crosswell Macmillan Wellbeing Lounge. All of these areas are designed to support patients and make treatment as comfortable and caring as possible.
This site was also developed to bring cancer services together under one roof and reduce the number of patients having to travel to other hospitals for treatments.
The Approach
To support the Trust’s goals, Ocura provided:
- Colorado chairs for the chemotherapy area
- Richmond Recliner chairs for single bedroom
- Nesting IV poles
- Slimline Clinicarts
- Soiled Linen Trolleys

The opening of Milton Keynes Cancer Centre represents a huge leap in the journey to transform cancer treatment, care and research here in Milton Keynes, enabling our staff to provide a much better service to patients.
It is a truly wonderful facility of which we are all very proud, and it signals our commitment to delivering the best care not just now but for future cancer patients in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.
Many Milton Keynes residents can now receive more holistic treatment for cancer in a much more comfortable and appropriate way. It is absolutely needed in order to keep up with the growth in the area and help to continue to provide the services for patients, both now and in the future.
