Knowledge HubRichard Davis wanted to show his gratitude to the Judy Beard Ward at Conquest Hospital for the excellent care and treatment his wife received there before she passed away. We assisted Richard with purchasing a Denver recliner for the ward so they could continue to provide the outstanding care.
After his wife sadly passed away, Richard Davis wanted to show his gratitude to the Judy Beard Unit at Conquest Hospital for the excellent care and treatment his wife received there before she passed away. We wanted to highlight what Richard Davis and friends and family have achieved for the unit through donating the recliner, and the impact it has had on the unit.
Richard Davis reached out to Ocura to inquire about pricing for the CA1940 recliner which the Judy Beard Unit had advised, as this is what they already have and use with great satisfaction.
Upon receiving a quote from Ocura, it became apparent that there was a shortfall in funding. This shortfall was split between Ocura and Richard Davis to cover the costs.
We worked with Richard on the specifications of the recliners and coordinating their direct delivery to the Judy Beard Unit, and helping Richard create and share the story with his friends and family, serving as a ‘thank you’ for their generous donations towards the cause.
“Judy Davis was a full time devoted and loving wife & mother to husband Richard, daughters Emma and Sarah, as well as a proud grandmother to Lucy, Zoe, Ruby, Evie-Rose and Lottie and great grandmother to new great granddaughter Amelia.
Judy & Richard have been married for 52yrs and along with her devotion to her family Judy enjoyed their frequent visits to the New Forest, especially the annual New Forest Show, staying in their favourite Lyndhurst or Lymington destinations.
Judy & Richard continued these trips along with Judy’s other favourite of spending as much time as possible in their holiday home at camber, her “special place”.
This continued as much as possible after her Cancer diagnosis in 2015 and provided her with considerable peace and relaxation after each of her Cancer treatments, primarily in Judy Beard Ward at the Conquest Hospital and Kings College Hospital in London.
Thanks to the treatment that Judy was receiving from the wonderful doctors and nurses she was progressing well until suddenly being struck down with Covid.
Judy sadly passed away in September after losing her short fight against Covid & Pneumonia due to her Multiple Myloma Cancer & it’s damaging effect to her immunity levels.
Judy’s wish was that we would ask for close family flowers only at her funeral and that any wishing to could make donations to go to Judy Beard Ward at Conquest Hospital.
To make this possible Emma set up a Go Fund Me Page to show all where the money would go.
This Oncology/Haematology Ward is where Judy spent many hours after her Cancer diagnosis in 2015 receiving treatment for her Multiple Myloma Cancer both before and after her stem cell transplant. The care and support she received during this time was outstanding. We have been truly amazed and are so grateful for the fantastic generosity of everyone who has donated and hope that everyone is as proud of the result of their contributions as we are.
Knowing from Judy’s experience how important the patients comfort is during, sometimes quite lengthy periods of treatment in Judy Beard Ward, it was important for us to find out from the staff how best we could use the money, so generously donated by our family and Judy’s many many friends.
From our discussions with Ward Sister Hayley, it was quickly decided that a replacement of one of the special “Recliner Armchairs” was the most urgent need for both patients needs & staff’s ability to accommodate more patients.
With this in mind we contacted and have been very generously welcomed by the manufacturer of these “Specialised” chairs who has offered exceptional & very generous assistance in making Judy’s wish to help Judy Beard Ward come true in a way that can go on helping patients and staff for a long time to come.
As a family we know that Judy would be so proud, that on her behalf, we have been able to donate this much needed chair to the ward in thanks to them for the treatment and help they gave both Judy and us.”
All of the staff of the Judy Beard Day Unit would like to thank Richard and his family for the very kind and generous donation of the new chair for the unit.
This will be used to enhance patient comfort during their cancer journey.
