Arvada standardisation at Yeovil Hospital

The Brief

289 Arvada Chairs have been installed at Yeovil Hospital with pressure care cushions. Although Yeovil physiotherapy drove the project, the project objective was to standardise one patient chair throughout the entire hospital. 

The trust wanted to work with us on the project as we could guarantee continuity of range for the future. 

The following needs were identified: 

• They needed a patient chair that was supportive and comfortable 

• The chairs needed to be easy to clean 

• The chairs needed to be robust and strong to be suited to high-traffic areas providing longevity of use

• A certain seat height, depth, and width were identified, allowing the hospital’s physiotherapy equipment to be used in conjunction with the chairs

The Approach

The Arvada met needs all the above requirements. Dartex pressure care cushions were also provided, to provide additional comfort and reduce the risk of pressure sores.

Yeovil Hospital asked us to deliver the 289 Arvada chairs over 2 deliveries. Both deliveries were arranged after hours to not interfere with patient treatment as the existing patient chairs were being used throughout the day. Both deliveries and installs were smooth and completed within a matter of hours.

The waste management team worked together with us to remove the old chairs and replace them with new ones. Some of the older-style patient chairs were still in good working order and were given to Bath Hospital to reduce waste, others were sent for recycling.

The Outcome

Miriam Williams, Service Lead, told us our input and expertise on the project were appreciated and complimented us on our efficient and effective service and implementation.

After the chairs were in use for 6 months, we checked back in to make sure the project outcomes were met. Miriam canvassed staff and patient feedback throughout the hospital by sending out a survey. Miriam shared the results with us. 

“Staff find the height adjustment feature to be a real positive, the chairs are easy to clean thanks to the removable seat cushion and efficient to move due to the housekeeping castors. Taller patients can independently get themselves up and out of the chair thanks to the supportive arms and the drop-down arm feature works well with the banana transfer boards.”
