Royal South Hampshire Hospital

Our client wanted a fully adjustable patient chair, with drop arms, height adjustment, pressure care seat with ease of cleaning with a good weight-bearing. The chair needed to be easy to move, easy to clean and be supportive for patients of all ages.

The Brief

The hospital wanted the range to include a high back as well as a midback version. The patient chair would be rolled out to several different areas as well as therapy and rehabilitation.

The Approach

Following discussions with the lead Physiotherapist, our Arvada Bedside patient chair was identified as the best match for staff and patient’s needs. We delivered an Arvada sample chair in both a high and medium back for the staff to evaluate in different areas.

The Outcome

Staff and visitors were impressed with the Arvada chair. They loved the steel frame, being lightweight it’s easy to move and easy to clean. The removable/replaceable seat pad is a benefit to extending the life of the chair. The pressure care seat pad and the soft PU arms added extra comfort. The weight-bearing provided equality of use to all, and the height adjustment and drop arms were easy to use.

We find the chairs really comfortable for patient use as the depth and width of chairs is more than the ones we had in the past. It is easy to maneuver as it has wheels. It complies with infection control policy. Also, the variable height adjusting option is essential for the type of patients we see, and this has a major impact on their progression on a day-to-day basis. The inbuilt pressure-relieving quality is also a key feature as some of our patients sit on the chair for prolonged periods and this feature helps in preventing pressure sores.
